You receive a grant to help you hire staff who need to enter the labor market. In order for a worker to be eligible for a Nystartsjobb, the following requirements must be met:

  • At least 25 years old
  • Registered with the Public Employment Service
  • Unemployed for at least 12 of the last 15 months

or

  • At least 20 years old
  • Registered with the Public Employment Service
  • Unemployed for at least 6 of the last 9 months

The unemployed person is entitled to a Nystartsjobb even if they have participated in a labor market policy program or if they have received sickness benefit, income support or similar. The unemployed person is also entitled to a Nystartsjobb if they are an unemployed newcomer.

As of April 1, 2022, the compensation levels for Nystartsjobb have been increased, making it extra beneficial for you as an entrepreneur. The compensation you can receive as an entrepreneur for the employee varies depending on the conditions met.

You can get 2, 2.5 or 3 times the employer contribution. However, as a self-employed person, you will usually receive twice the employer’s contribution as compensation. You can then be reimbursed for two employer’s contributions for monthly salaries up to SEK 20,000 for full-time work. Decisions on compensation are made for one year at a time by the Public Employment Service.

Nystartsjobb and their rules
There are certain rules that you must meet to be able to take part in a Nystartsjobb as an entrepreneur. There is clear information about all the rules on the website of the Swedish Public Employment Service, for example, but let’s look at some of the most important ones.

  • You must be registered as an employer with the Swedish Tax Agency
  • You must submit monthly tax and employer information to the Swedish Tax Agency
  • You must not have tax or social security debts of more than €10,000
  • The salary and benefits you offer should be in line with current collective agreements
  • There must be no shortcomings in the working environment around the employee
  • Wages must be paid electronically throughout the period

Nystartsjobb
Nystartsjobb is for all those people who need to get a foot in the door after a long period of absence. By offering a Nystartsjobb, you as an entrepreneur receive financial support while the employee gains important work experience and a chance to contribute their knowledge.

Normally, a Nystartsjobb can last for as long as the worker has been unemployed. If you are 25 years old or younger, the Nystartsjobb usually lasts 12 months. If you are over 26, the Nystartsjobb can last up to five years. After that, the employee can of course be given a regular job by the company, but without special remuneration.

The salary for a Nystartsjobb must correspond to the salary the employee is entitled to under the current collective agreement. If the company does not have a collective agreement, the pay must still be equivalent. In other words, the employee does not receive less pay for a Nystartsjobb, it just becomes cheaper for the company to hire.

There are several different types of employment subsidies that benefit both companies and unemployed people who need to enter the labor market. Among the work supports are new start jobs, wage subsidies and various aids. When you hire with employment subsidies, you can get reimbursed for up to 80% of the wage cost. Can I get a Nystartsjobb-grant for part-time work?

Can a Nystartsjobb be combined with other benefits such as sickness benefit?

A new start job is a replacement for a regular salary and employment. Therefore, if the employee is in need of sickness benefit, is due to receive parental benefit or goes on vacation, the usual rules apply.
