What is labor market training?

A labor market training is for anyone who has been unemployed for a while and wants to broaden their field of expertise. A short training course will help you gain new skills that can get you a job. These courses target occupations that have a shortage of skilled workers. This will increase your chances of finding a job after graduation.

There are plenty of training courses in various fields, such as construction, catering, engineering and automotive. Depending on the course you choose, you can study from a few weeks up to six months. Studies and traineeships are full-time during this period.

An education with a focus on practice

When you’re in vocational education and training, you get plenty of practice. Workplace learning (APL), as it is also called, is included in all programs, regardless of which direction you choose. The traineeship is an excellent opportunity for you to gain practical experience in the new professional role you are studying for.

During the traineeship, you will also have the chance to make important contacts with employers. This will make it easier for you to get your foot in the door.

Who can attend a labor market training course?

Anyone who is unemployed and registered with the Public Employment Service is welcome to apply for labor market training. Age and gender do not matter; the courses are open to all.

Applicants must meet one of the following three requirements:

Be at least 25 years old and registered with the Public Employment Service
Be under 25 years old and have a disability
Be 18 years old and far from the labor market

The training is of course free of charge for all participants. While you are studying, you are also entitled to activity support. This way you have an income during your studies. You apply for your benefit to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

If you are interested in vocational training with a traineeship, you should contact the Public Employment Service. They are the ones who decide whether you are eligible for training. What is taken into account is, among other things, your previous education and experience and your current ability to get a job.

Admission and application
